EMDR Treatments
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a form of therapy which is designed to help people heal at the brain level by desensitizing them to past distressing experiences. By utilizing bilateral stimulation (eye movements, audio stimulation, or tactile stimulation) the brain is able to reprocess the information now in a healthier way and rewire the brain’s beliefs about the experience. Individuals are able to then remember the event without feeling distress or re-experiencing as if it is still happening now (as often occurs in Post-traumatic Stress Disorder). Research has shown that EMDR is effective in helping people recover from trauma and PTSD. It is also used to treat any number of other issues such as depression, anxiety, relational issues, self-esteem, addictions, eating disorders, etc. Please visit the EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) website to read about the research that has been conducted on EMDR.
